Who are we?
The Tonga Parish has grown and developed to along with our leaders and community over the last 35 years. Established by Tongan migrants as the pioneers of the 80s, sustained by innovators of the 90s, further developed by reformers of the 00’s and currently upheld revolutionists of the current day have provided the best in their capacity to feed the spirit of the emerging Tongan Australian generations.
Vision and Mission
The Tonga Parish (TP) is an assembly of 9 congregations in the Sydney Presbytery of the NSW/ACT Synod of the Uniting Church in Australia (UCA). 55% of the total numbers are adults (over the age of 35) and 45% are 2ndGenerations (children and youth).
The TP has the responsibility to empower all its members in their worship of God and fulfilling God’s Mission through providing:
i.A safe environment within the Church for worshipping and practice of life-affirming and life-giving theology;
ii. A forum where Ministry, information, issues and, any concerns (ministerial, cultural or social) relating to all members of the TP can be transparently discussed; and
iii. A forum through which all members of the TP can relate directly to the Sydney Presbytery and conversely act as the "body" to which Sydney Presbytery can direct issues relating to the ministry, care, and oversight of all TP members in the Sydney Presbytery.
